Baghdad, Feb 6, IRNA - Iraqi President Jalal Talabani on Wednesday described the upcoming visit of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Iraq as 'unprecedented'.
"Iraq attaches great importance to such a visit," the Iraqi president said in a meeting with Iran's Ambassador to Baghdad Hassan Kazemi Qomi," according to an informed source at the Iranian Embassy.
He underlined, "We hope to welcome the Iranian president as soon as possible." Highlighting the need for expansion of all-out relations between Iran and Iraq, he said the visit of the Iranian president would help further strengthen bilateral relations.
"Iran has provided extensive supports for Iraq in the past and we want this policy to be continued as before," he said.
Iraq is in dire need of Iran's assistance in its reconstruction era, he said, terming Iran's role to this end as very positive.
The Iraqi president said it was necessary for Iraq to benefiting from Iran's experiences in various sectors.
For his part, the Iranian ambassador briefed the Iraqi president on the latest regional developments and called for upgrading current level of relations between the two countries.
