TEHRAN, Feb. 5 (Mehr News Agency) - French and Romanian presidents, Nicolas Sarkozy and Traian Basescu announced on Tuesday after their meeting in Bucharest that the Gaz de France Company would get involved in the Nabucco gas pipeline project as the likely seventh associate, IRNA reported.
The Romanian president has proclaimed his support from participation of France in the project. This is while that the Nabucco spokesman has neither confirmed nor rejected the news.
A source close to the dossier in Vienna said, under condition of anonymity, that Germany's second biggest energy company RWE, often named as a favorite to take on this role, was about to join the consortium as seventh associate.
Austria's OMV, Hungary's MOL, Romanian Transgaz, Bulgargaz of Bulgaria and Botas of Turkey, make up the Nabucco consortium's current partners, but they are looking for a seventh partner.
Nabucco is a 3,300-kilometre pipeline to transport gas from the Middle East and Central Asia to consumers in Europe while bypassing Russia.
