Sari, Mazandaran prov, Feb 10, IRNA - The inauguration ceremony for ceding the state run Casipan port of Fereydoun Kenar to the private sector was held on Sunday morning.
The 60-acre port city of Fereydoun-Kenar is located some 238 km north of the capital Tehran.
The ceremony for the port city's putting into operation was attended by head of Iran's Ports and Shipping Organization and a number of local officials.
Fereydoun-Kenar was originally designated by Majlis (Iran's parliament) as a port city in 1990 and vested in private sector in the first half of the current Iranian calendar year (to end on March 19) in line with the government's efforts to complete the privatization trend in the country.
The port city has three harbors with the capacity of loading and unloading 700,000 tons of goods and grains per year.
It is also equipped with latest telecommunications equipment.
Being stretched along the Caspian Sea coast, Fereydoun-Kenar is also a popular tourist attraction for Iranian and foreign visitors.
IRISL to double its vessels in Caspian Sea, director
Iran's Deputy Transport Minister said on Sunday that Iran will double its vessels ferrying in the Caspian Sea to develop shipping services.
Ali Taheri Motlaq, who is also Managing Director of IRISL, the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines, said that the company has planned to double its transport fleet in the Caspian Sea.
At the inauguration ceremony for ceding the state run port, Fereydoun Kenar, to the private sector, he said that the company will increase its 12 vessels in Caspian Sea to 25.
He added that the government is ready to cede the shipping services to the private sector.
