TEHRAN, Feb. 12 (Mehr News Agency) -- Chinese performers selected from the Beijing Opera arrived in Tehran on Monday. The 23-member troupe, which is to include the Iranian artist Ghaffar Purazar, will be giving several performances.
According to Purazar, they will be staging an operatic drama named "Spring River" and it will be the first time that they will be performing in the Persian language.
"Spring River" was earlier staged for Iranians residing in China at Iran's embassy venue in Beijing and was warmly received by the audience.
The Beijing opera, also known as the Peking opera, is a form of traditional Chinese theater which combines music, vocal performances, mime, dance and acrobatics.
It evolved in the late 18th century and became fully developed and recognized by the mid-19th century. This genre of drama was extremely popular at the Qing Dynasty court and has come to be regarded as one of the cultural treasures of China.
