TEHRAN, Feb. 13 (Mehr News Agency) - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hossini condemned on Wednesday the assassination of senior Hezbollah commander Imad Mughniyeh as "the blatant example of the Zionist regime's organized terrorism."
A car bomb in Damascus on Tuesday killed Moughniyah. Some Zionist politicians welcomed the news of his death.
Hezbollah accused Israel of carrying out the attack on Mughniyeh who was the target of several assassination attempts and abduction by the United States and Israel.
"Imad Mughniyeh, a senior Hezbollah commander was killed by Israeli state terrorism," Hezbollah said in a statement.
"With pride and honor, we announce the martyrdom of a great resistance leader who joined the procession of martyrs in the Islamic resistance," said a statement read on al-Manar, Hezbollah's television.
Hosseini defended the "legitimate right" of the Lebanese people to confront the occupying Zionist forces, urging the international community to take measures to prevent the Zionist regime from "committing such crimes which clearly violate the international law".
"Undoubtedly, Mughniyeh's records in his fights against occupiers are a golden page in the history of popular struggle against invading and occupying Zionists."
The spokesman also offered his condolences to Mughniyeh's family and the great nation of Lebanon, especially Hezbollah forces.
Mughniyeh had an effective role in repulsing Israeli aggression of Lebanon in 1982 and 2006.
