TEHRAN, Jan. 2 (Mehr News Agency) -- Iranians responded to the assassination of Benazir Bhutto with shock and grief. Everybody that you talk to says, "I became so sad when I heard the news of her death."
The citizens of Iran are repulsed with the masterminds behind the assassination and are wondering what prompted them to take such drastic action against a woman.
Benazir Bhutto had visited Iran while serving as prime minister of Pakistan. She even visited the Shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in Mashhad. Many Pakistanis say she loved Iran, and indeed her mother was from Iran.
Iranian women admired her because she was a woman who was active in politics, and some saw her as a role model for the empowerment of Muslim women.
Iranians were quite familiar with Ms. Bhutto since she served as the first woman prime minister of a neighboring country that has many cultural and linguistic affinities with Iran.
Iranians hope their next-door neighbors in Pakistan can return to the life of peace and tranquility and peacefully deal with the aftermath of Benazir Bhutto's tragic death, while taking serious steps to start a cultural revolution to rid the country of terrorism.
