Poem: True Love

By Roya Monajem, Tehran

On the occasion of the Christian New Year, and the fact that New Years are times to spend and share love
with Family and Friends: Happy New Year

***

I look at my heart
To feel how much
I love you
I might think it is a lot!
Yet this may be
My imagination
A mere illusion

In order to find the answer
I anxiously run to you
My living mirror!
Knowing that
This is the only way
To overcome
My Human
Self-deception

The parts of you
That I sense,
Feel and think
Repel me
Hate me
Don't love me
Is the balance
Or the meter
Measuring
My self-deception
Wishful thinking,
And the rest of my
Mental emotions
Worthless, hollow
At most
A kind of
Masturbation
A sign of
Self-love
And other forms of
"Internal Consideration"
Sucking the energy
I desperately need
To overcome
The chronic illness
Baptized by Bob Dylan
In the name of
Love-sickness!

This is a horrible sickness
Another good name for it
Is perhaps Vampirism

At the first glance
It feels like
True Manifestation of
Childhood fables
Hollywood movies:

"Once upon a time
There were
A prince and princes
....
Happily Living
Ever since and
After
In a heavenly castle

One feels
Exactly
As free as a bird
Or a butterfly
Soaring and singing
Making Love to
Flowers and Sun
At day-time skies
Dancing with the Moon
On the "Starry Nights"
As though
Looking at the world
From the Paradise
The Seat of God

Yet, sooner or later
We wake up one day
Finding the poor
"Sleeping Beauty"
And the bold Prince
If not in dungeon
In a golden cage
Bloody and wounded
Feathers scattered all over
Wings fractured and broken
Suffering from
Love-sickness

Now that I have escaped
So many cages
I know the only way
To overcome this
Sickness
A measure of my lies
Expectations
Self-deception
I need you
Family and Friends
Acting as my mirror
To find out how much
I am honest and truthful
In saying I love you!
