Tehran, Jan 20, IRNA - Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on Sunday drew the attention of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) toward the current situation in Gaza Strip in the occupied Palestine.
In separate messages to the OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu and several OIC foreign ministers, Mottaki stressed, "Broad ground and air attacks, closure of border points, tight siege of the region, preventing foodstuff and pharmaceutical products to be taken into the Palestinian regions particularly the Gaza Strip with a population of 1.5 million, will lead to a big human catastrophe."
"Receiving support from the world powers, the Zionist regime has trampled on the most basic human rights principles and by violating international accords and conventions has committed the most savage cruelties in the holy lands," Mottaki said in his message.
Today, the world is witnessing the racist measures of the occupying regime of Palestine and the massacre of the Palestinian people particularly in the Gaza Strip, he said putting the blame of the critical consequences of such measures on the Zionist regime and its allies.
Mottaki regretted that "the so-called human rights advocates have not taken the least measure to prevent such racist measures of the Zionist regime".
Condemning the Zionists' brutality and warning against the occurrence of a great human catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, he called on the OIC foreign ministers to hold an extraordinary meeting to review the inhumane crimes of the Zionist regime.
Devising appropriate and urgent mechanisms to stop Zionists' crimes was one of the main reasons behind Iran's request for holding the OIC foreign ministerial meeting, Mottaki added.
The message was submitted to the OIC in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, by Iran's ambassador and representative to the international body, Mostafa Boroujerdi.
In related developments, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, in his consultations with Malaysian Prime Minister, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, as the current OIC chairman, has called for holding the foreign ministerial meeting urgently.
