63 million people hold fixed, mobile phones in Iran: Minister

Damascus, July 1, IRNA - Iranian Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology Mohammad Soleimani said on Tuesday that there are as many as 63 million fixed and mobile phone users in Iran.

Addressing the Fourth International Seminar on Information and Telecommunications Security in Damascus, Soleimani said 27 percent of Iranian population are linked to internet.

Soleimani said 53 percent of Iranian villages are now connected to internet now.

He said Iran is ready to share experience and cooperate with other states.

More than 700 Arab and foreign experts are participating in the seminar which focuses on key aspects of information security, technology and telecommunications, and countering threats to big enterprises and their umbrella organizations.

Iran, Syria, the UAE, Egypt, Lebanon, Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain, France, Serbia, Saudi Arabia, the US, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland, Malaysia and Turkey are among countries that are represented in the meeting.
