PAAIA Sponsors Teacher's Workshop on Iran

Source: Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA)

On July 8 - 11, 2008, the World Affairs Council of America will hold its annual Summer Teacher Workshop in Washington, D.C. This year, through a PAAIA sponsorship, the topic for the workshop will be "Persia"or "Iran" (in contrast, the topics of the workshop in the past two years were Africa and the European Union.)

This exclusive workshop will allow 20 high school teachers from across the United States to meet with academics, government officials and other experts on Iran to gain a comprehensive understanding of Iran's history, culture, people and politics. The workshop being conducted in small groups in an intimate setting will allow participants to fully engage with Iran experts to get a nuanced understanding of the country and its people.

PAAIA believes that the fruits of this project will be invaluable. It represents a unique opportunity for providing a more positive and balanced perspective on Iran and Iranians, and by extension Iranian Americans, to the participating teachers from across the country who will then pass on what they learn to their colleagues and students for years to come. Educating our fellow Americans about our country of origin and who Iranians are is one of PAAIA's top priorities.

The World Affairs Council of America is a network of more than eighty-seven regional councils throughout the country that focus on international affairs and provide educational resources for teachers and students.
