TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- The United States once again labeled the Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization and its affiliates as terrorist groups and froze all their assets.
According to the latest list of Special Designated Nationals and blocked persons released by the US Department of the Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on July 8, 2008, the terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) a.k.a. MEK (Mujahedin-E Khalq), PMOI (People's Mujahedin Of Iran), NCR (National Council of Resistance), NLA (national Liberation Army), NCRI (National Council of Resistance of Iran), MISS (Muslim Iranian Students Society)... are all once again placed on the list of Specially Designated Global Terrorists.
The Office of Foreign Assets Control ("OFAC") of the US Department of the Treasury administers and enforces economic and trade sanctions based on US foreign policy and national security goals against targeted foreign countries, terrorists, international narcotics traffickers and those engaged in activities related to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. OFAC acts under Presidential wartime and national emergency powers, as well as authority granted by specific legislation, to impose controls on transactions and freeze foreign assets under US jurisdiction.
According to the report, the property blocked pursuant to an Executive order or regulations administered by OFAC is broadly defined to include any property, tangible or intangible, or any interest therein, including present, future or contingent interests. A property interest subject to blocking includes interests of any nature whatsoever, direct or indirect.
A person whose property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to an Executive order or regulations administered by OFAC (a "blocked person") is considered to have an interest in all property and interests in property of an entity in which it owns, directly or indirectly, a 50% or greater interest. The property and interests in property of such an entity are blocked regardless of whether the entity itself is listed in the annex to an Executive order or otherwise placed on OFAC's list of Specially Designated Nationals ("SDNs"). Accordingly, a US person generally may not engage in any transactions with such an entity, unless authorized by OFAC. In certain OFAC sanctions programs (e.g., Cuba and Sudan), there is a broader category of entities whose property and interests in property are blocked based on, for example, ownership or control.
MKO has a long history of violence and atrocity in Iran and Iraq while killing over 16000 innocent civilians as well as officials in Iran .The organization has also assisted former Iraqi Dictator Saddam Hussein in his imposed war against Iran and has its hands blood stained in the massacre of Kurds and suppressing Shiites' Intifada in Iraq.
