Tehran, July 20, IRNA - The US has yet to make a formal request for opening an interest section in Iran, Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Sunday.
"The US officials have followed up the issue in an American way which is through media and informed sources. We've got no request to this effect," Mottaki told reporters after a cabinet meeting.
He added that during his last visit to New York he was asked by reporters to comment on the issue which was quoted from "informed sources and media."
"I answered that it could be considered," added the foreign minister.
"If there is an official request, we will study it," Mottaki said He stressed that the Islamic Republic has always been honest with the people.

An interest section would be responsible for protecting America's interests in Iran by, among other things, providing consular services to Americans visiting Iran, processing visa applications for Iranians wishing to travel to the United States and monitoring developments on the ground.
