Iran wrestlers bag 3 medals in Turkey

Press TV - Iran has snatched two silver medals and one bronze at the 23rd Junior World Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships in Istanbul, Turkey.

Iran's Reza Assadpour took the silver in the 50 kg category after he was defeated by Kyrgyzstan's Kanibek Zholcubekov in the final on Tuesday.

Twenty-year-old Mohammad-Reza Akbari won another silver medal for the Iranian squad in the 96 kg category after he was beaten by Ahmet Tacylidiz from Turkey in the final.

Tacylidiz won the game thanks to rules on tie breakers which favor the wrestler who takes more three-point and two-point throws and then obtains the last point within one period.

In the 74 kg class, Yadollah Arab-Jafari lost his semi-final clash against the eventual champion, Elvin Mursaliyev of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and had to make do with the bronze medal.

The Iranian wrestling outfit currently stands in third place with 27 points. Kazakhstan leads the table with 31 points followed by Turkey which has 28 points.

Some 600 wrestlers and 300 trainers from 58 countries have taken part in the championships in three categories -- men's Greco-Roman, men's freestyle, and women's freestyle.

The World Greco Roman Championships will end Wednesday.
