FM: NAM meeting foils wrong impressions about Iran

Tehran, July 31, IRNA - The ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran has foiled the wrong impressions made about Iran's peaceful nuclear activities, Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Wednesday. The participating delegates from NAM's 118 member states voiced their support for Iran's peaceful nuclear program in a document released at the end of their 15th ministerial meeting in Tehran.

In his address to the closing session, Mottaki said that the NAM's support for Tehran peaceful nuclear program was a highly valuable step.

The document is a clear sign for other countries, Mottaki said noting that the major international body's member states form 60 percent of the United Nations.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference after the closing ceremony of NAM's 15th ministerial meeting here, Mottaki said, "There is a group who want to introduce themselves as the representatives of the entire world."

"They believe their words are the words of all world nations while they know this is not an acceptable or rational policy." Referring to the fact that NAM members formed 60 percent of the United Nations, Mottaki said that the consistent support of those countries for Iran's peaceful nuclear program "is significant and valuable."

He made the remarks commenting on a document released by the NAM member states at the end of the two-day meeting in support of Iran's peaceful nuclear activities and its undeniable right to use peaceful nuclear energy.

The ministerial meeting ended by releasing a final statement and two documents about Iran's peaceful nuclear program and the crisis in Zimbabwe.

NAM's support for Iran's peaceful nuclear activities will "dismiss some of the existing claims that the world community is against Iran's peaceful nuclear activities," Mottaki said adding that the support would create a "positive image" about those activities.

He added that the NAM members support for Iran's peaceful nuclear program would also send a signal to the parties involved in the nuclear talks with Tehran.

It would remind them to adopt a logical, constructive and realistic approach towards Iran, Mottaki stressed noting that the release of the document was "one of the major achievements" of the NAM ministerial meeting.
