Damascus, June 15, IRNA - Iran's national football team beat Syria 2-0 in Damascus on Saturday in the world cup qualifying games.
The two goals were scored by Gholam reza Rezaee and Mohsen Khalili in the 65th and 90+3 minutes.
With this victory, Iran with 9 points in group 5, will be one of the two teams which goes to the next round.
Iran's last game in this round is with Kuwait which will be played in Tehran.
In group 5, Iran, Syria, Kuwait and United Arab Emirates compete.
Meanwhile, China's chances of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup ended with a 2-1 loss to resurgent Asian champion Iraq, sparking celebratory gunfire in Baghdad and despair in Beijing.
