June 23 (ISNA)-Iran has captured 40 percent of carpet exports in the world, said
the director of Iran's national carpet center, Morteza Faraji.
According to Faraji, the total amount of exported Iranian hand-woven carpets reached to 750 million dollars in 2007 and the process of exporting Iranian hand-woven carpets is healing.
Introducing hand-woven carpets, holding carpet exhibitions and taking part in international carpet fairs are on top of the agenda for Iran.
Iran provides one third of the hand-woven carpets to the world markets, he said.
Iran is followed by India, which produced $271 million worth of hand-woven carpets in 2006, Pakistan ($239 million), and China ($115 million), the official added.
Although carpet weaving is now mostly mechanized, traditional hand-woven carpets are still seen across the country and worth higher than machine-made ones.
