Press TV - Iranian researcher Seyyed Mohammad Mahdi Hosseini has convinced the
UN Environmental Program to use the Persian Gulf on all documents.
While translating one of the UNEP publications on environmental law, Hosseini
encountered the use of 'the Arabian Gulf' in paragraph 25, chapter 13 of the
UNEP book.
The young Shahid Beheshti University researcher immediately sent a letter of
protest to the UNEP headquarters in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi and objected
to the use of the misnomer.
The UNEP investigated the case and finally issued a directive requiring its
production and distribution units to use 'Persian Gulf' instead of the Arabian
Gulf when referring to waterway between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula.
