Tehran, March 17, IRNA - A police commander announced in Tehran on Monday that Iran's drug haul this year, up by 51 percent compared to the past year, includes 95 percent of the world total drug discoveries.
Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Police (IRIP), Brigadier-General Ismail Ahmadi-Moqaddam made the remarks in a press conference this morning.
Some 565 tons of various kinds of narcotic drugs have been seized from drug smugglers in different parts of the country in the past 11 months, he added.
He regretted that some 8,200 tons of narcotic drugs have been produced in the neighboring Afghanistan in the current Iranian calendar year (to end March 19), showing an increase of 2,000 tons compared to the last year figure.
Referring to Iran's regional and international campaign against drug trafficking, the police commander said the Islamic Republic of Iran enjoys joint cooperation with almost all regional cooperation in that regard.
