Jamshid and the Lost Mountain of Light by Howard Lee is a fanciful
children's story about a boy's adventures in Ancient Persia.
Berkely Heights, N.J. -- Jamshid and the Lost Mountain of Light, a new
book written and illustrated by artist Howard Lee, is a children's story mixed
with both fantasy and modern day elements about a boy who learns responsibility
through a series of adventures while realizing he is more capable than he
thought.
In the book, young Jamshid experiences a series of hardships at his middle
school, as well as at his home in the palace of Ancient Persia. When a diamond,
referred to as the "Mountain of Light," is mysteriously stolen, Jamshid is
forced to flee for his life. Author Lee uses part historical fiction and part
fantasy to take readers on an exciting adventure while exposing a window of time
into the reign of Darius the Great.
The Kenya-born British author was inspired to write the story after a visit
to Persepolis in Iran, accompanied by his Persian wife and their young son,
Daniel. The sight of his son Daniel gazing through the actual windows that his
historical namesake had looked through over 2500 years ago, prompted the author
to tell a story set in ancient Iran, which resembled America in its day.
Through extensive research, Lee is able to showcase an enticing historical
backdrop to the drama that engulfs the hero. Children will be able to relate to
all of the emotions Jamshid experiences and will learn a valuable lesson in
finding inner strength during times of hardship. Readers of all ages will enjoy
the author's illustrations, especially those that bring the mythical creatures
of the palace to life.
