Iran's oil sector flourished in 2007

Press TV -- Iran's deputy oil minister says the last Iranian year, which ended on March 19, was the year of flourishing for Iran's oil industry.

Ali Kordan said Iran's oil production capacity has hit 4.2 million barrels per day and expressed hope that the country's oil industry will witness further growth in the new year, SHANA said in a report on its website on Wednesday.

"The main goal of Iran's Oil Ministry is to achieve an increase in the production capacity," he noted.

Earlier, Oil Minister Gholam-Hossein Nozari had declared that Iran broke its oil production record by producing 4,210 million barrels per day.

Nozari said that such a production rate is unprecedented since the 1979 victory of the Islamic Revolution.

Some 2.5 million barrels of Iran's daily production are exported. The remainder is used domestically.
