Siraf port introduced as Iran's National Port

Bushehr, March 30, IRNA -- Bushehr province's chief of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization said on Sunday that ICHHTO introduced the Siraf historical Bandar as a National Port.

Regarding the cultural and historical background of Siraf Port as well as its tourism potentials, the port was announced a National Port, Ahmad Dashti told IRNA.

Siraf Port will be one of the most important port in the country and that after being registered it will be provided with more credit to repair its building, Dashti added.

Siraf Bandar, called Taheri Bandar today, was one the biggest and the most prosperous ports in Persian Gulf Zone during the second and fifth centuries of lunar calendar.

Some parts of the Siraf ancient Port's monument is located between a mountain and a sea in southern Bushehr province, having spectacular sightseeing.

During the second tour of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his cabinet to Bushehr rials 110 billion was allocated to refurbish the Siraf historical Port.

The delegation also termed the Namak Kuh (the mountain covering with salt) in Jashk village and also Kharkou Island both in Bushehr province as National and tourist sites.
