David
Rahni reporting from New York
Darius Shahinfar (D-Albany NY)
marches along the path of the primaries in his stride towards the ultimate goal
of securing the New York's 21st Congressional District seat in November, a
position that was opened by the retirement of Congressman Michael McNulty. His
vision as encapsulated in his motto:
"Renew America's Promise" is capturing the interest of a national audience.

Darius Shahinfar
"Although my primary vision focuses on issues that
are of concern to Upstate New Yorkers, I am humbled by how our campaign message
has been so warmly received nationally," Shahinfar
appreciatively stated. Shahinfar, along with over 55 other Democratic
Congressional candidates, has signed on to the
"Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq" a proposal that is gaining
momentum and national attention to bring America's troops home from Iraq, repair
the diplomatic and humanitarian damage done by the war and to prevent similar
foreign policy blunders in the future.
The Iranian-American community
has initiated a series of face-to-face meetings with Mr. Shahinfar during which
he has conferred with a number of prominent leaders on topics of mutual national
interests. These meetings have resulted in a widespread endorsement of Mr.
Shahinfar's candidacy. They all agreed that a sound energy and environmental
policy, educational and healthcare reforms, rising tides and socio-economic
empowerment are among the major tasks of the next Congress through which
the needs of the
Iranian-Americans as well as every other American, namely, justice and
peace, equity and equality, more efficient and responsive government and fair
taxations, etc. can be met. Along with this outreach and support, a committee
has been formed to plan major events to benefit Mr. Shahinfar's candidacy.
When asked about his prospect
of winning the Seat, Shahinfar said, "This is a wide open campaign. I believe I
bring the broadest experience from community involvement such as volunteering on
the board of St. Anne's School, to serving in all three branches of government,
judicial, executive, and legislative. It is time to bring real, lasting change
to Washington with a new generation of leadership taking up the torch."
Dr.
Akbar Ghahary is in agreement with the endorsement of the Iranian-American
Political Action Committee (IAPAC)
of several national candidates, including Darius Shahinfar. The consensus of
the group is to reach out to the broader community asking everyone to visit the
Darius for Congress website and to register their volunteering and financial
support.
The
Iranian-American Community is recognized as among the most vibrant, affluent
and highly educated recent immigrant communities in the U.S. Despite the many
challenges faced by this community especially in the past decade or so, the
Iranian-American Community has, nonetheless, overcome these challenges, and
continues to work towards the advancement of quality of life issues for all
Americans at a pace unprecedented by other peer immigrant communities
nationwide.
