2nd Jiroft confab opens in Iran

Press TV - The second International Jiroft Conference opened on May 5th in a bid to discuss the early Bronze Age civilization in the southeast of Iran.

Joined by 15 foreign experts, Iranian researchers will present their archeological findings about the Mesopotamian and Jiroft civilizations during the four-day event.

They are to discuss the latest findings about the Halil Roud area in Iran's southeastern province of Kerman, which have revealed valuable information about the ancient site.

Historical artifacts discovered in Iran's Sistan-Baluchistan and Kerman provinces suggest that the civilization of Jiroft may date back to the 26th century BCE.

Archeologists are of the view that the importance of understanding Jiroft civilization could be of as much importance as that of the Sumerian and Mesopotamian civilizations.

Organized by Iran's Academy of Arts, the conference will continue to May 9 in Tehran and Jiroft.
