The
selection committee and Board Members are pleased to announce 2008 recipients of
Student Scholarship and Merit Awards.
For scholarship, the recipient is Mrs. Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich. In Merit
category, the Award goes to Mr. Daniel (Mehdi) Pourkesali. For those who follow
our countries' events, these two individuals do not need any introduction.
However, a brief bio of each will follow to give others a chance to get to know
them.
Besides recognition in our website, the selected individuals will receive small
gifts to demonstrate our appreciation for their hard work and dedication to our
community. With their efforts, we have been able to raise awareness in the mass
media about our rights and heritage.

Soraya
Sepahpour-Ulrich
is a graduate student at the University of Southern California's (USC) Annenberg
School for Communication and the USC School for International Relations, Los
Angeles where she is majoring in Public Diplomacy.
Her research focus is U.S. Foreign Policy towards Iran and Iran's nuclear
program, and the role of lobby groups in influencing US foreign policy. She is a
political essayist and her articles have been linked to many news sites. As a
radio commentator she has been a guest on BBC, NPR, Our media (UK)., KIRN 670 am
Los Angeles, 'The Hidden News' in British Columbia, CII , 'Out of Africa',
andVHeadline.com Venezuela.
Born in Tehran, Soraya was educated in Iran, England and France. She obtained
her Bachelor's Degree in International Relations from USC. She is a member of
Stanford's World Association of International Studies Society (WAIS).
Daniel
M Pourkesali
is a Product Engineer with an Aerospace company in Northern Virginia
specializing in development and manufacturing of flight dynamics, engineering
and control systems. He was born in Babol, a city in the Mazandaran Province in
Northern Iran, and attended Andisheh Don Bosco School in Tehran.
After graduating from high school, he moved to United States in 1978and received
his Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Embry-Riddle
Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. He is a senior editor and
U.S. board member of Campaign Against Sanctions and Military Intervention in
Iran (CASMII), a member of the National Iranian American Council (NIAC), Persian
Gulf Organization, and Iranians for International Cooperation.
