QAZVIN, May 10 (Mehr News Agency) -- Annually five million square meters of hand-woven
carpets are produced in Iran, Director of Iran's National Carpet Center Morteza
Faraji said here on Saturday.
Iranian carpets are recognized as the world's finest of its kind.

Meanwhile, India which is one of the world's largest carpet producers imitates
65 percent of Iranian designs, IRNA reported.
"Our rivals use Iranian designs and since three decades ago they are using new
marketing methods to seize a permanent place in the global carpet market," he
said.
"Iran's National Carpet Center seeks to create an ID for Iranian designs to
prevent copying by other countries and avoid quality decline in this field," he
added.
He named Tabriz, Isfahan, Shiraz, Hamedan, Kerman, Arak, and Mashad as the main
cities which are active in this field. Germany, the U.S., the Persian Gulf
littoral states, Japan, Russia, and Tunisia are the main markets for Iranian
carpets.
"Although Qazvin Province has over a thousand years of background in carpet
weaving, but it currently stands as the country's 20th producer of carpet," he
explained.
