PAAIA holds first event in Houston

On Sunday, October 26th Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA) held its first event in Houston, Texas at the beautiful Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH). Over 240 local Iranian Americans attended for an opportunity to meet PAAIA, learn about its goals, provide input and ask their questions of PAAIA staff. PAAIA was represented by Executive Director Babak Hoghooghi, Director of Public Relations Rudi Bakhtiar, and Director of Community Relations Dr. Niaz Kasravi.

Ms. Rana Kashani, a local activist and proud member of PAAIA, gave a warm welcome and introduced the PAAIA staff. PAAIA's community, image, and influence building goals were discussed and video clips of the acclaimed "Profiles of Iranian Americans" presented. PAAIA's message was further embraced when a local leader Dr. Vida Davoudi, professor of Political Science at Lone Star College, addressed the crowd by emphasizing the need for the Iranian American community to unite and through PAAIA create a voice for ourselves here in the United States. Dr. Davoudi's message resonated with the audience as she highlighted the many positive aspects of the Iranian culture and the need for us to add yet another quality to the list: that of uniting around our common issues and speaking with one voice to represent ourselves here in our adoptive homeland.

PAAIA would like to thank all of our supporters and friends in Houston. We welcome them to the PAAIA family and look forward to working together to leave a legacy for our children and future generations of Iranian Americans to come.

PAAIA is a 501(c)(4) "civic/social welfare organization" that is permitted by law to engage in issue advocacy and lobbying activities.  As a social welfare organization, PAAIA can and should ideally have an affiliated political action committee to enhance its political influence building activities.  The affiliated PAC will allow the organization to get directly involved in elections at the state and national levels by providing contributions to candidates running for public office.
