"Completing a solid evolution from video game to graphic novel, Mechner and Sina breathe life, passion and legend into the original concept.... This complex epic demands careful reading and a keen eye to detail. Combine these intricacies with a sprawling, visually literate landscape of love, lore and violence, and the result is a fine saga."
--Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

"There's plenty of action, and the artwork by Pham and Puvilland is suitably vigorous and exotic."

The Prince of Persia universe is one of the best-known and best-selling gaming brands in history.  With 10 games and over 10 million copies sold, every new installment becomes one of the most popular releases in the gaming world.  This fall the new "Prince of Persia" video game will be released and in June 2010 Disney will release Jerry Bruckheimer's hotly anticipated film version of "Prince of Persia" starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Sir Ben Kingsley.  On September 2, 2008 First Second Books introduces PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE GRAPHIC NOVEL ($16.95; paperback original) from series creator Jordan Mechner.

Written by Iranian-born A.B. Sina and illustrated by the husband and wife duo of LeUyen Pham and Alex Puvilland, PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE GRAPHIC NOVEL is an epic feast for the eyes and mind.  Two parallel storylines interweave the destinies of two princes who live 400 years apart.  Guiv's tale takes place in the 9th century while Ferdos lives in the 14th century on the eve of Genghis Khan's great Mongol invasion.  Love, war, corruption, power, and mysticism connect the timelines across centuries, providing new insight into the legend of the prince and asking if he is human or a universal archetype.

Deeply rooted in Iranian history and mythology, and brimming with links to the games, it is above all a thrilling adventure.

PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE GRAPHIC NOVEL features an Afterword by Jordan Mechner that provides an inside look at the history of the series, as well as Mechner's unique take on the game-to-comics process and the game-to-film process.

Jordan Mechner is the creator of the PRINCE OF PERSIA games, graphic novel, and the author for the film's screenplay.  He lives in southern California, where he's at work on the next Prince of Persia game and is writing and directing award-winning documentaries.  He is also at work on his next book, Solomon's Thieves, which First Second will publish.

A.B. Sina was born in Iran and has written for film, magazines, and journals around the world.  He divides his time between Montreal and New York.  He is also an award-winning poet.

LeUyen Pham is an acclaimed picture book illustrator; most recently her work was seen in Freckleface Strawberry by Julianne Moore.  She and her husband, Alex Puvilland, both began their careers at Dreamworks.  They live in the Bay area.
