Tehran, Nov 7, IRNA - A group of Iranian actors and an actress on Thursday voiced support for the World Food Program's campaign against hunger.
Reza Kianian, Hamid Farrokhnejad, Hamid Jebelli Hamed Behdad, Bahram Radan and Bahareh Rahnama were the people that in a ceremony on Thursday signed up the list of volunteers to assist the WFP in its plan of dissemination of information on hunger.
Hunger is reportedly threatening lives of more than 923 million people worldwide.
The WFP envoy in Iran Negar Gerami told the audience in the ceremony, held under the auspices of the Cinema House, that broad support of Iranian artists in the movie, music and arts sectors for the WFP plan has been impressive. "Definitely their (the artists') cooperation and solidarity will have drastic impact on global campaign against hunger," she added.
Gerami said hunger and mall-nutrition annually claim lives of 10 million people worldwide, a figure times higher than the toll of AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis.
The WFP, the biggest humanitarian organization worldwide, is to send food aid to more than 90 million hungry people in 80 countries this year.
