Iran discovers 3 tons of drugs daily: Police Chief

TEHRAN, Nov. 16 (Mehr News Agency) - National Police Chief Brigadier General Esmaeil Ahmadi Moqaddam said on Sunday that every day three tons of drugs are discovered in Iran.

He said drug production is on the rise in Afghanistan and is currently two times more than demand. Unfortunately foreign troops and other responsible authorities have failed to curb drug cultivation in the country, he added.

"Reports say more than eight million Afghans will suffer an unprecedented famine this year and this will surely let smugglers to abuse them," Ahmadi MOqaddam stated.

He said Iran, being a neighbor of the biggest drug producer in the world, has suffered the greatest financial and human losses in its efforts to fight drug trafficking.

"The secret to success in campaign against drug abuse is collecting and analyzing information."

He said if the countries involved in the drug fight fail to exchange information the traffickers will find greater opportunities for their nefarious trade.

Unfortunately, most of the regional countries do not have the high-tech equipment required to control borders and check out cargos, he lamented.
