Tehran Mayor Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf delivered inaugural speech to the meeting and extended welcome to the foreign guests.
He said: "Today is a historical and memorable day for Asian nations," adding that the mayors meeting is a starting point to move towards improvement of the quality of Asian people' lifestyle.
If the Asian countries' governments and parliaments back such regular meetings, they will achieve great impacts on their societies, Qalibaf said.
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, members of parliament, Chairman of Tehran City Council Mehdi Chamran and a number of prominent figures have taken part at the inaugural ceremony of the two-day meeting of the Asian mayors.
