TEHRAN,
Nov.24 (Mehr News Agency) -- About 80 million short text messages are interchanged daily
between Iranian cell phone users, Information Technology Minister Mohammad
Soleimani said here on Monday.
Speaking at the electronic commerce congress, held from November 23 to 24,
Soleimani said that information technology has been greatly improved in Iran.
He said there were only 850 telephone lines around the country in 1979 but the
number reached to 18 million in 2005 and passed 24 million in the current
administration.
Now all people have access to telephone services around the country, Soleimani
said.
He said the number of cell-phone users has also increased over the past 14
years.
"Cell-phone usage started in Iran in 1994," Soleimani said, adding that
currently the number of cell phone subscribers has reached to 41 million from 7
million in 2005.
