Press TV - Iran's top military commander says the country's armed forces will keep a watchful eye on the borders to counter espionage activities.
"One of the powerful aspects of Iran's armed forces was manifested when they dismantled an Israeli spy cell and arrested members of the network," the Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi said Thursday.
He was referring to the dismantling of an espionage network with links to Israel's Mossad spy agency. Three Iranian members of the cell were arrested before carrying out any operations against the country. They were said to have received extensive spy training in Tel Aviv.
Firouzabadi said the plots hatched by US and Israel would lead them nowhere, as Iran's united armed forces were ready to counter any threat.
On Monday, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Commander, Major General Mohammad-Ali Jafari, said that the IRGC security and intelligence divisions identified a network that was spying on the country's military organizations.
The network was tasked with gathering information for Israel about Iran's nuclear facilities and the IRGC, as well as Iranian military and political figures.
Ali Ashtari, who was arrested by security forces, admitted that Mossad had instructed him to sell bugged internet cables and satellite phones to target Iranian officials in an attempt to monitor their communications.
The Israeli military has reportedly been preparing for what it hopes to be an air strike on Iran's nuclear facilities.
