Run DVD and Curzon DocDays are delighted to present a special event
celebrating the work of internationally acclaimed British documentary filmmaker
Kim Longinotto. On Sunday 7th December the Curzon Soho cinema (in London) will
be screening a double bill of her outstanding documentary films DIVORCE IRANIAN
STYLE and RUNAWAY. Kim Longinotto will also be in attendance for a Q&A with the
audience.
"What I love about documentary is that you can tell a story
which has a sense of danger to it, you don't know what's going to happen.
Sometimes we ask more of documentary than we ask of other media... " - Kim
Longinotto
"Not only is Longinotto the greatest documentary classicist
working in Britain today, she is the most consistently devoted to the idea of
reconciliation." - Mark Cousins
Kim Longinotto is renowned for creating extraordinarily intimate
portraits of women on the fringes of society, tackling controversial topics with
sensitivity and compassion.
Her films explore the drama of women's lives across the world,
including Japan, Kenya, Cameroon and Iran. Filmed with empathy and humanity,
they are gripping testimony to the transformative power of hope.

DIVORCE IRANIAN STYLE unfolds inside an Iranian divorce
court, providing a subtle and intimate look at the lives of women in a country
stereotypically associated with fanaticism and oppression. Subtle and
beautifully observed, the film reveals the ingenuity and humour with which
Iranian women negotiate the restrictions of their society.
