TEHRAN, Oct. 7 (Mehr News Agency) - Interior Minister Ali Kordan here on Tuesday rejected reports of his resignation.
"You see that currently I am the interior minister and I will continue my job," he told Mehr News Agency.
There have been some reports that Kordan has submitted his resignation to the cabinet on Monday night. He is accused of fooling the parliament with his doctoral certificate. Kordan had denied charges that his certificate was bogus. However, after an investigation by the Majlis Educational and Research Committee it was revealed that his degree is false.
Meanwhile, MP Ali Motahari said one of the reasons for pushing an impeachment against Kordan is that he has received payments based on his certificate.
Motahari dismissed claims by Kordan that has received no payment for his certificate. "We have documents that he has received payments," he told reporters in parliament.
Surprisingly enough, Kordan was a faculty member in one of open universities. Kordan had previously said he had not been paid for teaching in the university either. Motahari again denied the claims by Kordan.
The MP added the reasons for impeaching Kordan are "dishonesty, receiving payment by an invalid certificate, and becoming a faculty member by an invalid certificate."
Motahari went on to say, "We are awaiting the government's measures. If Kordan himself resigns, we have no persistence on impeachment."
However, he added, "It will be better if the minister himself resigns, or the president depose him. Otherwise, we will launch the impeachment motion."
