Vienna, Oct 17, IRNA - The OPEC ministerial emergency session will be held in Vienna, Austria, on Friday, October 24.
An informed diplomat told IRNA in Vienna that the OPEC Secretary General had in phone calls with OPEC oil ministers on Thursday night called for holding the extraordinary meeting.
Oil prices have plunged from record highs above 147 dollars, reached in July, because of worries over demand in a slowing global economy.
Thursday alone there was about dlrs five fall in the prices. The price stood at 63.34 dollars a barrel on Friday, down five dollars compared to the previous day price, according to OPEC Secretariat in Vienna.
Earlier, certain OPEC ministers, including Iran's Oil Minister, Gholam-Hossein Nozari, had called for an emergency session.
