Quakes injures 8, inflict slight damage in southern Iran

Tehran, Oct 26, IRNA - Eight people were injured and buildings were slightly damaged by fourth consecutive tremors and their aftershock in Bandar-e Kong, in southern province of Hormuzgan province, in the past 24 hours, a local official said on Sunday.

Governor of Bandar-e Lengeh, five km from the quake-stricken area, Mohammad Nourfardi told IRNA that the wounded were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment while other panic-stricken people of the old port city stayed outdoor for all night.

The road linking Bandar-e Lengeh to the provincial capital of Bandar-e Abbas was also blocked for hours due to a landslide caused by the four earthquakes.

The tremors were respectively measured 4.3, 5, 4 and 3.7. They jolted Bandar-e Kong from early Saturday to early Sunday.

Bandar-e Kong is situated 160 km west of Bandar-e Abbas and five km from Bandar-e Lengeh with its 15,000 population.
