First quake forecast seminar ends in Tehran

Tehran, Oct 29, IRNA - First Seminar on Earthquake Forecast attended by researchers on seismology was held here at the International Research Center for Seismology and Quake Engineering Wednesday.

Secretary of the event, Reza Mehr-Nia said that feasibility studies on predicting earthquakes, latest achievements in the field were discussed during the event.

This is while the main aim of the event was to gather findings in the field for use by researchers, he noted.

He called on those who conducted researches on seismology and have obtained desired results to put their information in the form of article and CDs at the disposal of the National Center of Predicting Earthquake to be uploaded on its website.

Mehr-Nia announced the readiness of the center to hold joint meetings with researchers in the field.

Stating that compilation of the data will help detect earthquake indicators, he said that holding the seminar will herald the beginning of the task.

More than 40 articles were submitted to the secretariat of the event, of which 21 were presented at the event and 10 will be published in the form of posters, he said.

Iran has good scientific centers compared to other quake-prone countries, he noted.

First Seminar on Forecasting Earthquake was sponsored by Tehran University, Geophysics Institute affiliated to the university, Yazd University, International Research Center for Seismology and Quake Engineering, Research Center of Housing and Urban Development and Atomic Energy Organization.
