Tehran,
Oct 29, IRNA - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali
Khamenei said here Wednesday that the US will not be able to dissuade the
Iranian nation from the path of independence, dignity and prosperity.
"The most important duty of the young generation is feeling responsible for
destiny of the country. Difference between Iran and the US is far beyond
difference of opinion. The US will not be able to prevent Iran from treading the
path of independence and prosperity. The Iranian nation will ascend peaks of
science, power, welfare and honor," said Ayatollah Khamenei.
The Supreme Leader was addressing a group of students and academics on the eve
of 13th Aban (November 3), marking National Day of Campaign against Global
Arrogance and anniversary of takeover of the US Embassy in Tehran by a group of
students in November 1979.
The Supreme Leader said victory of the Islamic Revolution, led by Imam Khomeini,
and failure of global arrogance in Iran were all due to the young generation
feeling responsible for destiny of the country.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the Iranian nation's landmark victory and resistance
during the eight-year (1980-88) Sacred Defense was also due to the youths
feeling responsible.
"Today too, Iran and the Iranian nation are in dire need of the youth feeling
responsible. The youths, who are the would-be officials and planners of the
country, should try to strengthen their faith, insight and scientific awareness
and capability to fulfill the heavy responsibility (of standing up to global
arrogance)," said Ayatollah Khamenei.
Elsewhere in his address, Ayatollah Khamenei questioned about the reason for all
problems and differences between Iran and the US and said the answer to the
question lies in careful study of the issue because differences between Iran and
the US are far beyond differences over certain political issues.
The Supreme Leader said following victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, the
US lost its main base at the heart of the Middle East, which is also the world's
oil rich spot.
Iran thus turned into bastion for campaign against the US hegemony through its
motto of campaign against injustice and arrogance and defense of rights of
nations, added the Supreme Leader.
Ayatollah Khamenei said that once expelled from Iran, Americans started to
launch espionage activities through their Embassy in Tehran against the Islamic
establishment of Iran but to no avail.
"The huge movement of Muslim students following path of the late Imam (Khomeini)
thwarted their conspiracy," added the Ayatollah.
The Supreme Leader advised the youth to study books containing documents
obtained from the US Embassy in Tehran after its takeover and also get
information on role of the Embassy in Iran both before and after the 1979
Islamic Revolution.
The Supreme Leader said the Iranian nation's resistance, achievements and
victories have impressed Muslim nations, making them highly interested in the
Islamic Republic of Iran.
Ayatollah Khamenei said that Americans increased pressure on the Iranian nation
to force it to give up its resolve to attain independence and dignity, thus
turning it into a dependent nation and a US subordinate.
The Supreme Leader said the Iranian nation hates the US. "The reason for this is
the various plots the US government has hatched against Iran and the Iranian
nation for the past five years. Americans have not only refused to apologize for
their acts, but have also continued with their hegemony. We are for safeguarding
our identity, independence and dignity and are against fighting.
"However, anybody willing not to honor the Iranian nation's identity and
independence, will have their hands cut off by the Iranian nation."
Commenting on the result of the US-Iran confrontation, Ayatollah Khamenei said
propaganda apparatus of the West, especially the US, pretend that outcome of
such a confrontation would be Iran's defeat and the USA's success but "that's a
sheer lie because the way ends in a deadlock for the arrogant US regime. Had the
US wished to defeat Iran, it would have done it when the nation was less
experienced and had little scientific and military capabilities. It couldn't do
so in those times and now the Iranian nation is more powerful and capable than
the past. Definitely it will not be able to do that." He said today, the US
government has lost its prestige and honor in the eyes of western nations and in
the US too and today all the US slogans about human rights and democracy are no
longer valid worldwide.
The US-style human rights in the Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo prisons and other
prison cells as well as massacre of people in Afghanistan and Pakistan have come
to light, said Ayatollah Khamenei.
The Supreme Leader added that the true nature of the US democracy has become
known to all through its hostile attitude towards the popular government of
Hamas in Palestine, forcing Iraqi popular government to sign a security deal and
raising baseless charges against the Islamic Republic of Iran, whose officials
have been chosen on public votes.
"Today, the US government has lost its face to the extent that wherever the US
president travels, people hold demonstrations, calling for his exit," added
Ayatollah Khamenei.
Noting that the Iranian nation and officials owe their success and victory to
their resistance, Ayatollah Khamenei said, "This does not mean that there is no
problem. The reason for all problems is failure to show resistance whenever
needed. The key to public victory and unity is unity between the nation and
government as well as officials."
Ayatollah Khamenei also cautioned the nation, especially the youth, politicians,
officials and the press against enemy's conspiracies and said the enemy is bent
on dividing the nation, pitting political groups against one another, making the
youth busy with transitory desires, fomenting unrest in educational environments
and making the public disappointed. "So all should be careful not to play in the
ground prepared by the enemy."
The Supreme Leader said, "God willing, the Iranian nation will definitely leave
behind difficulties and ascend to peaks of success."
