BIRJAND, Sept. 6 (Mehr News Agency) - The head of South Khorassan Province's Agricultural Jihad Organization here on Saturday predicted that the saffron output of the province in the current Iranian calendar year (to end March 20, 2009) will drop to 35 tons.
He blamed drought and cold for the drop, ISNA reported.
The official said that saffron output ranked the fourth in the province's agro products after pistachios, animal skin, and raisins.
Accounting for 30 percent of the country's under cultivation land for saffron, the province ranked second nationwide in terms of agro production.
