Tehran, Sept 16, IRNA - The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps is assigned for the Persian Gulf defense, Supreme Leader's top advisor for the armed forces affairs, Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, said on Tuesday.
The former IRGC commander told reporters that Army of the Islamic Republic was also assigned for the defense of the Gulf of Oman and Caspian Sea.
Any hostile targets throughout the Persian Gulf and all warships passing through the Iranian southern waterway are within the reach of the IRGC's missiles," Safavi said.
He added, "Iran's armed forces have the entire Hormuz Strait under control relying on their complete defensive power which includes missile units as well as the air, ground and navy forces." The major general stressed that Iran's armed forces, including Army, IRGC and the 11-million-member Basij (Volunteer) forces, were ready to stand up against any threat.
Commenting on the Zionist regime's threats
against Iran, Safavi said, "Israel lacks necessary political, economic and
social capabilities to begin a big war."
As for the US threats against Iran, the major general stressed, "In case of venturing into hostility with Iran, the US 200,000 troops in the region would be in serious danger."
