Tehran Times Political Desk Qatari crown prince: We are confident that Iran's
nuclear activity is solely peaceful
TEHRAN – The Qatari crown prince in a meeting
with Iranian defense minister in Doha on Tuesday called for an expansion of
defense ties with Iran.
Iran's Defense Minister, Mostafa Mohammad Najjar, accompanied by a high ranking
defense delegation, conferred with Qatar's Crown Prince and Deputy Commander in
Chief, Tameem Bin Hamad Al-Thani.
Pointing to Iran's role in regional developments, Al-Thani said that "we
consider Iran a big, Islamic, brotherly and dear country."
The crown prince pointed out that every country has the right to use nuclear
energy for peaceful purposes, adding, "We are confident that Iran's nuclear
activity is solely peaceful."
The Qatari deputy commander also stressed the need to increase defense and
security cooperation with Iran, saying that Iran's defensive power is very
"effective" in promoting regional security.
Najjar said Iran's priority is to strengthen relations with the neighboring
countries particularly the Arab countries sitting on the southern coast of
Persian Gulf.
"Given the traditional and very good relations between the two countries, Qatar
has a special place" in Iran's foreign policy, the minister noted.
He said "collective cooperation" along with expanded ties would best guarantee
regional security, stability, and economic prosperity.
Najjar officially invited the Qatari crown prince to Tehran and voiced Iran's
readiness to expand ties with Doha in all areas including security and defense
areas.
