Salman Zaker told IRNA Sunday that ecological damage to Orumiyeh Lake National Park is tantamount to the destruction of agriculture in the West and East Azarbaijan provinces and extinction of birds and wildlife.
Although 230 legislators in a letter to the president have called for saving the endangered lake, this has not happened.
Earlier in August, some 230 MPs sought a special budget to channel water from Zab River to the lake.
Zaker further proposed that Friday prayers of one of the cities be held once near the lake so that the people will become familiar with the reality from close.
Orumiyeh Lake faces a crisis due to drought as its water level has declined by six meters compared to the figure for rainy years.
Ecological experts have described such a drop in the level of the lake as unprecedented.
The lake serves as a habitat for many species of migrating birds.
Located between West and East Azarbaijan provinces, Orumiyeh Lake has 102 small and big isles, a number of which are unique in flora and fauna.
It is considered the biggest Iranian lake and a God-bestowed manifestations of beauty.
