Tehran, Sept 23, IRNA - The new academic year in Iran began Tuesday morning with First Vice-President Parviz Davoudi ringing the bell at a boy's elementary school in southern Tehran.
Later, Davoudi addressed the students, teachers and staff of 'Martyr Kazemi' school on the occasion.
Meanwhile, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who is currently in New York to attend the 63rd meeting of UN General Assembly, in a message sent from the UN Headquarters, felicitated the beginning of the Iranian academic year.
Several other dignitaries, including Minister of Education, Ali-Reza Ali-Ahmadi, attended the ceremony.
Over 14 million students are enrolled in schools across the country in the current school year.
