Iran-US citizen dialogue held in Geneva

Press TV - Iranian and American academics have engaged in regular talks in the Swiss city of Geneva, according to official sources.

Academics and specialists from Iran, the US, and Europe have been holding regular high-level but informal talks in the city, the Geneva-based newspaper Le Temps reported on Tuesday.

Swiss Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey has confirmed that such talks between Iranian and US citizens have been held in Geneva over the past few years but she stressed that the Swiss government has not played any role in the talks.

"The talks are on a purely informal level and the Foreign Ministry is not involved," Calmy-Rey said on Tuesday.

The newspaper revealed that the meetings, known as the Track II process, involved academics from Iran, the US, Switzerland, other European states, and Arab countries.

The secret meetings were held behind closed doors, the report said.
