TEHRAN, Apr. 17 (Mehr News Agency) - Iranian Deputy Commerce Minister Mehdi Ghazanfari has called on Iranian expatriates to play a greater role in the country's economic development.
At a gathering of Iranian expatriates in Tehran, he said that Iran's non-oil exports were projected to reach $11.58 billion in the last Iranian calendar year (ended March 20), according to the Fourth Five-Year Socioeconomic Development Plan (2005-2010), but they have already $23 billion.
He put the number of Iranians residing abroad at 3 to 5 million, with a total estimated capital of $1.3 trillion, IRNA reported on Friday.
"Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, China, India, South Korea, Japan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Belgium, and Saudi Arabia were the 10 top destinations of Iran's non-oil goods in the last (calendar) year," added the official.
The gathering of Iranian expatriates was held from April 14 to April 16 in Tehran.
