Tehran, April 22, IRNA -- Secretary of the Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei on Wednesday declared himself as an independent candidate in the upcoming presidential election in Iran.

Rezaei earlier served as the commander of Islamic Revolution's Guard Corps (IRGC).

Rezaei also ran as a candidate for the fundamentalist camp in the last presidential election in 2005 before withdrawing his candidacy.

Iran's presidential election is scheduled for June 12.
