Press TV - Afshin Qotbi will steer Iran's national football team in its remaining matches in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, the IFF has announced.
"Iran's Football Federation (IFF) has appointed Afshin Qotbi as the national team's manager in the upcoming matches," the IFF said in a short statement published on its official website.
Qotbi's appointment comes a day after Mohammad Mayelikohan resigned from his post as Iran manager over the controversies he caused by writing an open letter scorning Iranian football figures.
The former Persepolis manager will have an Iranian and two Dutch assistants, the ISNA news agency reported.
Iran, which is in Group B of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers along with Saudi Arabia, South Korea, the UAE and North Korea, will meet North Korea in its next match on June 6.
South Korea tops the group with 11 points, one point ahead of North Korea and Saudi Arabia. Iran is placed fourth with six points, while the UAE is at the bottom of the group with only one point.
