London, April 25, IRNA -- The Iranian Academics Symposium started here in London with the aim of promoting the academic achievements of Iranian students abroad.
The two-day symposium has been organized by the Iranian Scientific Representative in the UK and Ireland in association with the Islamic Student Association in London.
Professor Alireza Salehi, the chair of the symposium, said at the opening ceremony that from the 452 papers received by the secretariat of the conference, 74 were selected by prominent professors at UK universities for presentation in the symposium.
Salehi said that the Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology is supporting research activities of Iranian students abroad as an 'essential' instrument in promoting science and technology.
"It is my great pleasure to announce that Iranian universities are at the forefront of the academic provision as research is vital to Iranian academics who want to keep abreast with the cutting edge knowledge and technology."
Salehi added that the Iranian Academics Symposium is a venue which brings top Iranian researchers together 'to provide them with a forum for collaborative exploration and discourse on various themes'.
"The papers, which portray the latest technological and scientific achievements of Iranian students abroad, have been selected by prominent professors of British universities," he said.
Some 2,170 Iranian students are presently studying at different levels in universities in the UK and Ireland, of whom 200 have been offered scholarships by the Iranian government.
