We have had a tremendous year thanks to all of you who have cared enough for the children of Iran to allow the work of our Foundation to go forward.
Since we last gathered together in Washington, DC at our Bahar Ball...we have had two wonderful children here for treatment. The first, Ali...well, as they say, "a picture speaks a thousand words" so we will let his photographs and videos speak to you.
The second Afsaneh was not the outcome any of us had hoped for... and yet we were humbled again to learn that no matter how much we do for this Foundation, no matter how hard it is to give your hard earned money away, or to ask people for their money, or to organize events, or fill out forms, or any of the 101 things we all do for the Foundation...nothing is as hard as suffering from a grueling, life threatening condition. We learned courage from her as we saw how difficult it was for her to take a single step...and yet every day she takes hundreds of steps to go to school and she gets good grades. We learned that the work of this Foundation is not always about happy endings but it is occasionally about getting your heart broken.
But we are hopeful Afsaneh will be healed.
We now have 3 young patients waiting to come to the United States. These are confirmed and approved.
One is a young girl with a heart condition. Once again Dr. David Overman will be our FCI hero and his amazing colleague Dr. Gremmels and the rest of the fantastic team at Children's Heart Clinic will be our angels.
The second, a young girl with scoliosis will be operated on by one of our own, renowned spine surgeon, Dr. Amir Mehbod. This is not the first time the gracious and highly skilled Dr. Mehbod has helped FCI. We are also grateful as this patient was introduced to us by Dr. Mehbod himself.
Last but not least, we have a wonderful young lady with very severe and rare urological and gynecological anomalies. This unfortunate (or should I now say fortunate?) young lady will be under the care of FCI founder and nationally recognized pediatric urologist Dr. Hossein Aliabadi.
We are indeed fortunate to have such worthy sons of Iran...now great American surgeons...taking care of these very complex cases for us. To learn more about these and our other doctors, click here.
FCI extends a special note of gratitude to Voice of America TV, Mr. Hooman Bakhtiar, for allowing our voice to be heard by the families of these children in Iran.
We salute with all our heart and soul, the people in Tehran & all over Iran, our compatriots in Dubai & to our consular officials, our special friend in New York, and the American friends of FCI, especially the staff of HealthEZ & APPO for volunteering to build a chain of hope which carries these children from their home to the United States for treatment and back. You validate our faith in humanity. You remind us of the greatness of the fearless Persian people and the great big heart of the American people.
It has been a challenging year. We are never happy to have more patients....but we are happy to be able to help. Thank you for allowing us to help.Mission - The Mission of The Foundation for Children of Iran is to arrange for the provision of health care services to Iranian Children or children of Iranian origin. The Foundation is focused on the provision of heath care services that will cause a discernible improvement in the quality of life as well as life expectancy for these children.
