Payvand.com - Iran-Europe rail connection has been interrupted due to ground movements in the vicinity of the town of Khoy in West Azarbaijan province. About 300 meters of the railway has been destroyed. A special team has been formed to repair the railway.

In geology, engineering, surveying, and orthopedic surgery, subsidence is the motion of a surface (usually, the Earth's surface) as it shifts downward relative to a datum such as sea-level. The opposite of subsidence is uplift, which results in an increase in elevation.

Khoy is a city in West Azarbaijan Province, Iran. It is located north of the province's capital and largest city Urmia, and 807 km north-west to Tehran. The region's economy is based around agriculture, particularly the production of fruit, grain, and timber. Khoy is nicknamed as the Sunflower city of Iran. As of 2006 census, the city had a population of 178,708, with an estimated 2008 population of 184,409.

The ground movement has also severely damaged the roads in the area and caused interruption of traffic to the surrounding towns and villages.
